In SR TMX, a friend’s family business, the same business is viewed very differently by different family members. For the founder, it represents legacy and pride. But for the next generation, it can feel like pressure or a platform to prove themselves.
This paradox — that one business holds so many personal meanings — really stood out to me. Even within the same family, roles, priorities, and emotions often clash.
It made me reflect on how family businesses are more than just companies — they’re shaped by personal stories, expectations, and identity. What one member sees as a dream, another may see as a burden. And that’s what makes family firms so complex and fascinating.
