Always include cartoons, metaphors, songs and video clips in the Family Business Labs Forum to challenge yours, your peers’ and the Lab’s Community’s ideas about these questions:
1. How would describe the culture of your family’s business?
The culture of my family business is a bit traditional. They don't have family women on board.
2. In what ways are your family’s purpose and values reflected in this business culture?
My family's got a traditional background. All my dads brothers are more than 8 year+ elder than him.
3. How does this stage of your family business’ lifecycle contribute, affect or erode the business and ownership dimensions of your business?
I think its high time we should concentrate on some modern ways of working with business. Otherwise, it'll erode the business.
4. I will have opened my chain retail stores, and all of that would be in modern ways.
In India, we've always been prepared what to do and how do you do. We have been told that you'll start working on this specific job and you'll get x amount of money.
I can relate to the dynamics of male domination in the business but it is not like a restriction and can be changed if the women want active participation. I infact want to work on improvement of working conditions of the business to improve the amount of participation. As elimination of women from the workforce leads to the elimination of some core emphatical values which can contribute to the unity of work. As for the traditional background, I believe tradition is more connected to the values than the bloodline or involvement of the close-family members.
The family’s purpose and values are reflected in the business culture when every family employee gets equal opportunities and ways to contribute. This shows a level of good governance which is enabling every employee to grow. The respect and integrity of each other are present which is visible by the constant growth of the business. The company is doing pretty well in the market due to the effective communication and understanding among the employees.
My family business is generally managed by the men of the family. The culture is men-dominant, and the objectives of the company are also set by these men. The culture is developed according to the mission and values of the company while adding the family lifestyle and norms into it. The employees are given equal and fair chances to grow and evolve with time. There is unity, respect, and love among the family employees with regard to the ideas and strategies recommended by them.
@Nikunj Gaba , many thanks for this. We would call this a very descriptive account in response to the framing questions! You haven't used any framework from the program to frame your response- and evoke responses nor provided sources to support your claims e.g. what does 'traditional' family mean here. 'Traditional' is an ambiguous concept so please support your claims with reference to its meaning in the family business theory sense fo the word!
